Florissant, Missouri: Six people who went missing last year are being looked for by the police. They are thought to be part of an online group led by a man who has been convicted of s*xually abusing children.
On Tuesday, the Berkeley Police Department said that Rashad Jamal, who runs what he calls the “University of Cosmic Intelligence,” has ties to two of the kids who went missing in August. The police called the group a “spiritual cult,” and 200,000 people follow its YouTube channel.
People who are missing include:
- 24 year old Mikayla Thompson from St. Louis.
- The girl is 25 years old and from St. Louis.
- 3 year old Malaiyah Wickerson from St. Louis.
- German, Gerrielle, is 27 years old and from Lake Horn, Mississippi.
- 3 year old Ashton Mitchell from Lake Horn, Mississippi.
- Williams, who is 29 years old and from Washington, D.C.
Hasan Rashad Jamal White, who goes by the name Jamal, said he didn’t know the six people who went missing and that he wasn’t a group leader because he just ran a YouTube show.
The authorities say that Jamal is in Georgia jail for 18 years for abusing children.
Government officials say that the members had multiple relationships, used social media, and shared Jamal’s pictures. They also stopped talking to family and friends, quit their jobs, and meditated outside while naked. They also changed their names to honor the gods and goddesses they worshiped.
The last time anyone saw the six people was on August 13 at the Quality Inn in Florissant, Missouri. They were last seen at a rental house near St. Louis Lambert International Airport with four adults and two children. On August 12, Berkeley police confirmed that they were looking into the case.
